The first quarter of this year has been busy conducting ISO 9001 (Quality) and 14001 (Environmental) Management System Internal Audits with many diverse manufacturers in the UK. Demonstrating their commitment to delivering high-quality products/services and to protecting the environment.

Internal Audits are a necessity for ISO 9001 and 14001 certification and they need to be evidenced as part of the annual Surveillance Audits. They are worthwhile activities in general, as they help to maintain a quality and environmental focus, minimise risks, ensure legal and policy compliance, celebrate success and drive businesses forward. They involve an independent and objective assessment of the continual effectiveness and compliance of management systems. A process of reviewing and evaluating internal systems, processes and controls. 

Internal Audits also help to identify opportunities for improvement and reinforce best practice. When conducted effectively, Internal Audits contribute significantly to business sustainability, by providing valuable insights and recommendations for improvement across various aspects of the operation. They have the potential to reveal risks and opportunities that may not be immediately apparent.

By conducting Internal Audits, an organisation can uncover and address areas for improvement, leading to enhanced performance and operational excellence. Internal Audits may be regarded as a key to unlocking the full potential of a business and beneficial regardless of whether ISO 9001 & 14001 certification is required.
