How a QMS Approach Can Enhance Employee Satisfaction
A Quality Management System (QMS) champions behaviours such as People Engagement, Relationship Management and Customer Focus as part of the key QMS principles.
Employee involvement, personal development, recognition and customer satisfaction all contribute to a positive workplace experience, leading to enhanced employee satisfaction, engagement and performance.
The ISO 9001 QMS standard also highlights the importance of having:
- An Appropriate Work Environment - with resources and working conditions to operate successfully.
- Clear Requirements - understanding of roles and responsibilities, which enable expectations to be met with a sense of competence and accomplishment.
- Consistent Ways of Working - a structured approach, supported by documented processes, procedures and best practice that help employees understand how to complete tasks effectively.
A QMS helps establish a framework that positively influences business values, to foster a culture that develops, empowers and makes people feel valued.
I consider myself fortunate to have developed my career in environments where the companies I worked for were renowned for their positive work culture. On reflection, it epitomised a QMS. Such an approach and reputation significantly contributed to their success as leading retailers in both the UK and US at the time. Central to this success was the reliance on 'colleagues delivering willingly and well,' a result of high employee satisfaction, engagement and performance.
