In monthly blogs throughout the year, we plan to highlight positive business outcomes resulting from new or established Management Systems, specifically focusing on Quality (ISO 9001) and Environmental (ISO 14001). 

For example, positive business experiences that may have:

- Increased awareness of business risks & opportunities
- Provided valuable direction & guidance
- Encouraged improved ways of working 

It is always pleasing to hear comments from individuals where they personally acknowledged or benefited from their management system framework. Feedback possibly expressed during general discussions, Internal Audits or Management Reviews, that we have facilitated, or when supporting their initial Certification or annual Surveillance Audits.

Here is an example during an Internal Audit. Operational benefits expressed by a director of a UK manufacturing company, where they design, manufacture, supply, install and provide maintenance services: 

- Documented workflows proved invaluable for new starters to the business, offering a clear overview of high-level processes and team contributions, that they could picture and more easily understand. Also, work instructions serving as a helpful reference for the management team, providing guidance in various situations, when they are not as close to the detail on a day-to-day basis but needed to follow the prescribed procedures on occasions.

As we progress throughout the year, I am eager to share & celebrate business feedback regarding the practical benefits of these management systems, which are driving noticeable business improvements. It may motivate others to enhance or embed theirs & reap some of these benefits. When faced with internal & external business challenges it may feel difficult at times. An effective QMS should complement and enable the achievement of business goals, with value adding tools and activities.
